Stockholm is the capital and largest city in Sweden that is situated amidst Lake Malaren and Baltic Sea. There are 14 islands in the city center and around 24,000 islands along the archipelago. Birger Jarl founded Stockholm in 1250 when he used this city to give protection to Sweden from foreign navies. Its location near Lake Malaren made this city an important trade area thus making it a modern and progressive city during the 20th century.

Stockholm is famous for its festivals which draws in a huge crowd each year including the Stockholm International Film Festival held every November and gives recognition to international films. This city also hosts the largest Pride festival in Scandinavia which is held every July or August and features various performances, seminars, parties and gay pageants. The best place to start sightseeing is at the Old Town where you can find the Great Square, Stockholm Cathedral, Riddarholmen Church and Stockholm Palace. There are also many world-class museums in Stockholm including the National Museum of Fine Arts which has the largest art collection in Sweden.
The best way to explore Stockholm is by riding a bicycle since that is cheap and you can choose your own destination. If you are don't feel like biking, then take the metro, train or bus since they are very accessible.
