Poznan
Location, Climate:
Poznan is one of the oldest and largest cities in Poland that is situated along Warta River. The weather in Poznan ranges from hot summers to cold winters due to its continental humid climate. Snowfalls are common during winter while rain is the most every July.
Brief History:
The name of the city was said to have come from the Polish participle word “poznan” which means “one who is recognized” thus being called “Poznan's town”. Poznan could have also come from the word “poznac” which means “to recognize” so the city is considered a “know town”.
Events, Landmarks, Activities:
Poznan has numerous cultural and religious events including The Passion of Christ which is held Saturday before Easter and is considered the country's biggest show, and the Malta Theatre Festival which is a week-long showcase of international theatrical performances happening in July. The best place to start sightseeing is at the Cathedral Island which consists of many historical sites including the Archcathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, The Church of Our Lady, Archbishop's Palace and Psalter House. The Old Town also has several attractions such as the Town Hall, St Stanislaus Church, Imperial Castle and the Franciscan Church. Must-see museums in the city include the Poznan Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Poznan June 1956 – Uprising.
Transportation:
It is best to explore Poznan by foot since most of the attractions are located in one area plus it also lacks public transport. Another option is the tram but it is a bit expensive.
