Oslo is the capital of Norway and also considered the center for business, culture, government and science making it the most important city in the country. It is situated on the northern part of Oslofjord and near the Nesodden peninsula. The weather in Oslo is extreme having a humid continental climate where summers can get too hot and winters can get really cold. Oslo was discovered by King Harald III in 1408, but a great fire hit it and was destroyed in 1624. The city was rebuilt by King Christina IV and called it Christiania in the 18th century. It regained its name Oslo when Sweden and Norway finally united.There are lots of festivals in Oslo and the biggest music fests include the Oyafestivale which is held at the Medieval Park and the Oslo Jazz Festival which runs for 6 days in August. Another prestigious event is the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony which is held every 10th of December. Since also is a green city, the place is surrounded by many beautiful parks and the biggest is the Frogner Park where one can find the highly-acclaimed Vigeland Sculpture Park, Frogner Stadium and Frognerbadet. Another popular park is the Bygdoy which consists of many museums such as the Kon-Tiki Museum, Viking Ship Museum and Norwegian Museum of Cultural History.Oslo has great public transportation and the easiest way to explore this city is by riding the Oslo Metro, Oslo Tramway and Oslo Commuter Rail. There is also a cruiseferry that travels daily to other countries like Denmark and Germany.
