Location, Climate: Miami is a popular tourist destination in the United States that is situated in the region of South Florida and near the cities of Naples, Fort Lauderdale and Key West. The weather in Miami is hot most of the time so expect to see sunny days from June to September. Avoid visiting Miami during the hurricane season which is usually from August to September. Brief History: The first settlers of Miami were the Tequestas but was claimed by Pedro Menendez de Aviles of Spain in 1566. After building Fort Dallas, Miami faced many battles but soon prospered in the 1920s. It was later on called the “Magic City” because of the huge increase in its population from 1896 to 2006. Events, Landmarks, Activities: Miami is known to be a party place so make sure to visit the city from February to March for three major events: the Carnaval Miami which is a 10-day music, arts and food festival, the Ultra Music Festival which is a 3-day music fest and Calle Ocho which is a Hispanic street parade. Miami is rich in culture and arts and those can be seen from its museums such as the Lowe Art Museum, Frost Art Museum and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. A trip to Miami won't be complete without heading down to Miami Beach and Star Island. Transportation: The easiest way to get around Miami is via Metrorail because it is faster but another great option is the bus. A more convenient way of traveling is by car and there are also lots of cheap car rentals in this city.
