Location, Climate:
Krabi is the capital of one of Thailand's most famous beach destinations which is the Krabi Province. This charming town is situated on the aperture of Krabi River along Phang Nga Bay. Brief History:
During the beginning of the Bangkok period, Chao Phraya Nakorn (Noi) ordered his men to build an elephant kraal in Krabi. He ordered his minister Phra Palad to check out this task and make sure that there were enough elephants for this town. Many followers moved to Krabi thus increasing the population of its community.
Events, Landmarks, Activities:
The Andaman Sea Festival in November marks the start of the tourist season. Enjoy the parades, live music, water sports competitions and open-air markets during this event. The most notable landmark in Krabi is the Khao Kanab Nam which is two huge karst rocks that consist of caves. Just like any Thai island, Krabi also has magnificent temples that are worth-visiting including the Tiger Temple and Wat Kaew. Another must-see attraction is the Contemporary Art Museum of Krabi which is just a few steps away from Wat Kaew.
Transportation:
When planning to explore more of Krabi, take the songthaew (shared taxi) which are color coded based on its destination. Just make sure to push the stop button and pay the driver before getting off the songthaew. Take the long-tail boats when planning to hop on to another island.
