Interlaken is a popular holiday getaway in Switzerland and is situated in the region of Bernese Highlands. Its location near the Swiss Alps and Alpine Lakes make this city a great base for outdoor sports. If you are into winter sports, the best time to visit Interlaken is between December and March.
Brief History:
Interlaken was originally called Aarmuhle which was the name given to the mill which was built near to the convent that the Canons Regular constructed in around 1133. This convent is now known as the Interlaken Abbey and from there, a village was formed out of which Interlaken grew.

Enjoy live music and great scenery at the Jungfrau Music Festival which is held between June to July and features gala concerts, music classes and competition. Another crowd drawer is the Greenfield Festival held in June and showcases more than 40 Swiss and international acts. Get ready for the ultimate mountain experience and take an excursion to Jungfraujoch where you can also find the magnificent Ice Palace and Sphinx observation hall. The most touristic area in Interlaken is Hoheweg which is made up of many hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. If you prefer a more peaceful area, then visit Unterseen which is a small town that also has several bakeries and shops.
