Brief History:
Honolulu – Waikiki used to be the playground of Hawaiian royal families during the 19th century. It used to be a wetland with streams running to the valleys. Things changed in Waikiki around the 1920s when the Hawaiian government built the Ala Wai Canal that drained the wetlands and paved way for future developments.

Tourists from all over the world packs at Kalakaua Avenue where you can sample different SPAM dishes, watch live entertainment, and see the cute SPAM mascots. Aside from the world-famous Waikiki Beach, there are other wonderful sites in town that are worth-visiting such as the Diamond Head Crater which features an observation deck overlooking the Oahu coast, and the Kapiolani Park which houses the Honolulu Zoo and Waikiki Aquarium.
Transportation:
It is easy to see get around town on foot, but if you prefer to ride, you can hire a moped (small scooter). There are many moped rentals in the area, but make sure to follow the traffic rules.
