Location, Climate:
Edmonton is the capital of Canada's Alberta province. It is situated on the North Saskatchewan River and features a humid continental climate. Summers in Edmonton are warm while winters are cold. It is not advisable to book a discount hotel in July because that is the wettest month in Edmonton. Enjoy dry and mild weather by booking discount hotels between October and November.

Brief History:
Before the Europeans settled in Edmonton, the surrounding area was inhabited by native tribes for thousands of years. The Edmonton House was established in 1795 and after that they started the construction of Fort Edmonton. The town became a trade center for furs which soon increased the number of wealthy families living in the area. Edmonton was officially named a town in 1892.

Events, Landmarks, Activities:
There are more than 30 festivals held in the city annually, but probably the biggest is the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival which is held every month of August. This is the largest festival of its kind in North America and features over 1,400 theater performances. Edmonton's main attraction is the North Saskatchewan River Valley where you can find many recreational trails, amazing wildlife and the Fort Edmonton Park. Art lovers should definitely visit the Royal Alberta Museum and Art Gallery of Alberta.

Transportation:
It is easy to navigate the streets of Edmonton that's why many tourists prefer renting a car to get around the city. Taxis are available 24/7 which are perfect for late night traveling. Edmonton has excellent bus network with hundreds of bus routes all over the city.
